Origins & Education
Born on November 2, 1960, in Babor, at the foot of the majestic Mount Babors (2,004 meters above sea level) in Algeria, Mahieddine DJOUDI comes from a respected family lineage. His family descends from Sidi El Djoudi Belhadj of Hammam Guergour, an ancestry whose members are known for their deep roots in the region and their involvement in local development.
The DJOUDI family's roots in the region date back to when the grandson of Sidi El Djoudi, Sheikh Abdelkarim ben Cherif, left Hammam Guergour to settle near the Babors mountain. There, he acquired agricultural lands in the form of Habous (religious endowment), thus establishing the family's lasting presence in this fertile mountainous region.
Gifted in his studies and particularly drawn to sciences, Mahieddine chose to focus on mathematics in high school, which allowed him to enter the prestigious Mohamed Kerouani High School in Sétif. His three years as a boarding student were intellectually stimulating and crowned with success when he obtained his baccalaureate with honors in 1979.
In September 1979, he enrolled at the new University of Sétif where he naturally joined the common core program in Science and Technology. Fascinated by logical reasoning and curious to explore what was then an emerging discipline, he chose Computer Science as his specialty. Unable to continue this training in Sétif, he moved to Constantine to complete his undergraduate studies and obtained a State Engineer's Degree in Computer Science (equivalent to a Master's degree).
Eager to deepen his knowledge and develop his research skills, he continued his academic journey in France at the University of Nancy. There, he first obtained a DEA (Diplôme d'Études Approfondies, equivalent to a research Master's), and then, in 1991, a doctorate on the complex issue of acoustic-phonetic decoding of the Arabic language in continuous speech and multi-speaker context, a pioneering research field combining signal processing, computational linguistics, and artificial intelligence.
Scientific Career
Mahieddine DJOUDI's scientific career began even before defending his doctoral thesis. He secured a contractual position as a professor-researcher in Computer Science at the University of Poitiers, an institution where he would continue his career with consistency and dedication. His professional journey is distinguished by a continuous commitment to high-level teaching and regular scientific production in recognized international journals and conferences.
Currently, he is affiliated with the TechNE research laboratory (Digital Technologies for Education), where he actively contributes to the development of innovative solutions for digital learning. His expertise covers a wide spectrum of interconnected domains, demonstrating his versatility and ability to evolve with technological advances:
- E-learning and distance education
- Design and development of adaptive hypermedia
- Creation and use of virtual laboratories

Impact & Influence
Mahieddine DJOUDI's influence extends well beyond the borders of the University of Poitiers and France. He maintains active and fruitful collaborations with several Algerian universities, thus contributing to the strengthening of Algerian academic ties and the development of scientific capacities in his country of origin.
This international collaboration takes various complementary forms:
- Joint supervision of doctoral theses and master's dissertations, allowing Algerian students to benefit from international expertise
- Organization and participation in scientific events that promote knowledge sharing and the formation of research networks
- Teaching in postgraduate programs, contributing to raising the academic level of higher education
- Involvement in collaborative research projects that address issues relevant to economic and social development
One of his most remarkable contributions is his role as the main coordinator of the ALSCINET Network of Algerian Scientists and Competencies (https://alscinet.dzportal.net/). As part of this initiative, he is currently developing a comprehensive database of Algerian expertise abroad, a veritable wiki of talents classified by major specialties. This ambitious project aims to facilitate networking among experts and promote knowledge and technology transfer to Algeria, thus helping to mitigate the effects of the "brain drain" and transform it into a "circulation of skills."
Through his constant commitment to research, teaching, and international cooperation, Mahieddine DJOUDI perfectly embodies the figure of a "knowledge bridge" between the two shores of the Mediterranean, working to build lasting academic and scientific connections.
