Origins & Education

Mokhtar Lakehal, whose full name is Mokhtar Lakehal Bouhadi Amar, was born on April 10, 1942, in El Gaada, a village near Oran, Algeria. Coming from a modest background, he initially obtained a degree in accounting, which allowed him to work as an accountant at Cado, a cement factory of the Lafarge group, from 1968 to 1973.

In January 1974, seeking to deepen his knowledge, he left Oran for Paris, where he embarked on an ambitious academic journey. He studied at several prestigious Parisian universities (Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, Paris VIII Vincennes-Saint-Denis, and Paris X Nanterre), successively earning multiple degrees in economic and social sciences. His academic path culminated in 1990 with a State Doctorate in Economic Sciences from the University of Paris-Nanterre, demonstrating his intellectual rigor and perseverance.

Scientific Career

Mokhtar Lakehal's teaching career began in 1979, marking the start of a rich and diverse academic journey. He has shared his expertise in numerous French higher education institutions, including the Charlemagne Institute, the Higher Institute of Management (ISG), IPESUP, Sorbonne Nouvelle University - Paris 3, Paris-Sorbonne University, and Paris-Est Créteil Val-de-Marne University.

In 1984, driven by a desire to contribute to research development, he founded the Laboratory for Research in Economic and Social Sciences (LARMISES), an independent laboratory that has become a space for intellectual innovation and critical thinking.
