Messaoud Harfouche was born in 1971 in Texenna, in the province of Jijel, Algeria. He completed his secondary education at El-Kendy High School in Jijel before pursuing his university studies at the University of Annaba (Badji Mokhtar University).

He earned his PhD in a multidisciplinary field, specializing in X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy, an advanced technique for structural and electronic analysis of materials. This solid educational foundation provided him with the expertise necessary to excel in cutting-edge scientific research.

Scientific Career

Dr. Harfouche currently holds the position of Beamline Senior Scientist at SESAME (Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East) in Jordan. As the XAFS/XRF (X-ray Absorption Fine Structure/X-ray Fluorescence) beamline manager, he oversees state-of-the-art facilities that enable advanced X-ray spectroscopic analysis.

His expertise spans a wide range of scientific disciplines, including physics, chemistry, mechanics, as well as applied fields such as environment, urban planning, architecture, and geography. This multidisciplinary approach allows him to contribute to diverse and innovative research projects.

SESAME represents a major international initiative, being the first synchrotron in the Middle East, fostering regional and international scientific cooperation. Dr. Harfouche plays a crucial role in this groundbreaking facility.
